One of the larger rivers in El Chocó, the Rio Quito has been the site of much devastation from mechanized mining. As of 2016 the river no longer had living fish.

Working by night, this man repairs a dugout canoe. Despite a logging accident that left him unable to walk, he was able to support his family through his woodworking skills.

Just across the wide river from Quibdó, this man lived in a tiny hamlet of a few families, sustaining themselves through fishing or day labor. They had a school, and teachers who came by boat from Quibdó.
